There is nothing religious about the Maribor Lent Festival in Slovenia!
The Lent Festival is one of the largest annual music and cultural Slovenia festival that takes place in Maribor. It typically runs for around two weeks, from late June to early July, during which the streets and squares of Maribor come alive with music, dance, theatre, and other cultural events.
What to expect in Maribor Lent Festival 2024?
The festival features a wide range of music, including jazz, classical, folk, and pop, as well as performances by theatre groups, dance troupes, and other artists.
In addition to the music and cultural events, the Lent Festival also includes a range of food and drink offerings, with vendors selling traditional Slovenian dishes and local wines. But this Lent Festival has to do with religion as the festival takes its name from the fact that many of the events are held along the banks of the Drava River, and riverbanks are known as "lent" in Slovenian!
About the area: Maribor has a rich history and culture, with many historical landmarks, museums, and galleries. One of the most prominent attractions in the city is the Maribor Castle, which dates to the 15th century and houses the Regional Museum of Maribor. Other notable landmarks include the Maribor Cathedral, the Town Hall, and the Water Tower. The city is also known for its wine production, particularly the white wine variety called "Šipon," which is made from the local grape variety called "Furmint." Maribor hosts an annual wine festival called "VinDel," which attracts thousands of visitors every year.
In addition to its cultural and historical attractions, Maribor is also a hub for sports and outdoor activities. The city is surrounded by scenic hills and forests, making it a popular destination for hiking, cycling, and skiing.
